This test is called a Lab Practical where you go from station to station and answer questions. We will complete a practice before hand where students can work with partners and try out the stations of the test. For the actual tests, the numbers will be changed. Below is a rough plan of what will be tested at each station. Ranges of answers will be accepted so that students who are close and can prove they can use the equipment will be given full credit. Students who do not take the practice seriously struggle with the actual test.
Lab Practical Station Descriptions
Using the Triple Beam Balance to find the MASS of 2 different objects.
Calculate the density of a substance. The formula for density and calculators will be provided.
Cylinder: use a ruler to measure the diameter, radius and height of a cylinder. Then use the provided formula to calculate. Measure with water to see how accurate your calculation was.
Same as above except with a rectangular prism.
Use the DISPLACEMENT CAN to find the volume of one item.
Use a graduated cylinder to find the volume of 2 items.
Look at the mass and volume of a DENSITY BLOCK to determine what material it is made of.
Look at data of the volume and mass of an item to graph and determine the density of the item.
Use a ruler to determine how long 4 items are.
3 conversion questions from m to cm, m to km and cm3 to mL.
Look at a graph to answer questions about the mass and volume of a substance.
