Owl Pellet Predator

• We will watch a documentary (dirty jobs) on how we got our owl pellets.

• Choose a group of 3-4 people to work with.

• Pick through the owl pellets and put bones in one pile and hair in another.  

• Once all the bones are out of the fur pile, start articulating the skeleton back into the prey (like a mouse)

• Label the bones

  • • • Use a ruler

      • Make sure the labels are horizontal

Analysis Questions

• 1 per group 

• Use the spiral workbooks in class that has a dichotomous key to identify your animal to the best of your ability. 

HELP...  I don't have the bones I need

• Check the lost and found pile near the “nursery” fish tank

• or Draw in some of your missing bones to label

Clean up & Turn in

• 1 project with horizontal labels and no bones falling off turned into me

• analysis questions 1 per group

• Put fur in trash

• extra bones in the lost and found pile

• empty baggy to me (yes I am that cheap and I reuse them)
